Places to See in Ajmer

1. Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah
The Dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz is the final resting place of the revered Sufi Saint who journeyed from Persia to Ajmer. This spiritual sanctuary, built with white marble, features 11 intricately carved arches adorned with Persian inscriptions. Devotees visit the shrine to seek blessings and offer ‘Chadar’ as a mark of respect. The daily Qawwali sessions add to the shrine’s vibrant and mystical atmosphere. Known for its charity work, the Dargah earned the title ‘Garib Nawaz,’ meaning supporter of the poor. The first documented visitor to the shrine was Muhammad Bin Tughluq in 1332.

2. Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda
Originally a Sanskrit college, this structure was converted into a mosque in 1198 AD on the orders of Mohammad Ghori. Legend states that the mosque was constructed in just two and a half days, giving rise to its name, “Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda.” The site showcases an extraordinary blend of Indo-Islamic architecture, crafted from the remnants of Hindu and Jain temples. It is also associated with a fair held during Urs that lasted for two and a half days.

3. Soniji Ki Nasiyan (Ajmer Temple)
Known as the Lal Mandir, this Jain temple on Prithvi Raj Marg is an architectural marvel with interiors entirely gilded in gold. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rishabhdeva, the first Jain Tirthankara, and illustrates the five key events (Panch Kalyanak) of his life: conception, birth, renunciation, enlightenment, and salvation. The ornate display, adorned with gold leaves, precious stones, and silver, is a visual delight. The temple’s proximity to Akbar Fort makes it an unmissable destination.
