Afterward, you will drive to Kuchaman, with a stop in Ajmer. Situated in a green oasis surrounded by rocky hills, Ajmer has a fascinating history. Founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th century AD, it became a stronghold of the Chauhans until the end of the 11th century when Prithviraj Chauhan lost it to Muhammad Ghori. This city has since blended Hindu and Muslim cultures, reflected in its monuments and heritage.
In Ajmer, you will visit the Adai-din-Ka Jhopra, a mosque built by Muhammad Ghori in just two and a half days in the 12th century. You will also visit the tomb of the revered Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, a sacred pilgrimage site for thousands of devotees, second only to Mecca and Medina in religious significance. Today, you will be driving to Sariska National Park, with a stop at Tunga along the way. Tunga is historically significant as the site of a battle between the Marathas and the Kachhawah Rajputs. The Marathas, led by Mahadjee Scindia, attacked Sawai Prithvi Singh, but the Rajputs emerged victorious. Despite the Marathas’ French-trained army, they could not match the Rajputs’ valor.
After your stop at Tunga, you will continue your journey to Sariska National Park, a game reserve established in the 19th century by the Maharaja of Alwar. The park also houses the Maharaja’s hunting lodge, a beautiful structure located in the midst of serene wilderness.
